Xanathar |
Floon Blagmaar? |
Volo last saw him 2 days ago at the Skewered Dragon in the Dock Ward between Net Street and Fillet Lane.
On route to the Skewered Dragon you encountered the city guard who arrested 3 members of the Xanathar guild, having seen tattoos of the arrested, and a number of dead individuals in the street.
Old Xoblob Shop
A cloud of lavender-scented purple smoke trails out of the shop's door as you peer inside. Every wall is painted purple, and every dusty knickknack on the shelves is dyed a deep violet. The hairless old gnome sitting cross-legged on the counter wears plum-colored robes. His cheeks are decorated with nine purple face-painted eyes.

The gnome lowers a pipe and exhales a cloud of lavender smoke before raising a hand. “Hail and well met! Come browse the shelves of the most curious curiosity shop in the world!”
The shop is located at the corner of Zastrow Street and Fillet Lane and a three story building with the shop front on encompassing most of the ground floor. Xoblob sells many different trinkets and even some "common" but unusual magic items. While magical most people would struggle to imagine any use for these magical items let alone the mundane ones. Prices seem to range from a single "dragon" to up to 3 "sun" (platinum piece)
The Skewered Dragon looks like a ruin. Both of its front-facing windows are smashed, and a ship's anchor is lodged in the roof. Through the windows, you can see a group of haggard patrons drinking from huge tankards.
Upon arriving at the Skewered Dragon you talked to Burga, the owner of the Skewered Dragon, who after paying her some silver she remembered seeing volo and his friend. She said Volo left at dusk then the red head seemed to meet a friend and they left around midnight with a few others that left right after. Talking to some patrons you learned that Floon's friend name began with an "R" and was referred to as "Just another spoiled rich noble who likes to rub our noses in it. On of the patrons said "Look for the warehouse on Candle Land with a snake symbol on the door"
Candle Lane
The buildings on either side of Candle Lane are so tall and so tightly packed together that light touches the street only at highsun and at night the lane is even darker. Gloom envelops a narrow alley as dark as a dungeon—and as odorous as one, too. Nearly all the streetlamps have been smashed. The only light that pierces the darkness is a faint flickering from down the lane, like a distant candle.
Zhentarim |
Upon entering the Warehouse you fought with 4 bird like humanoids that seemed to just parrot things back that they've heard others say. After killing them you discovered six humans, with Zhentarim tattoos, dead and piled up, their rapiers and daggers piled up a few feet away.
In searching the warehouse Saraid noticed a secret door where you found a stash containing fifteen 10lb silver bars worth 50gp each and four paitings worth 300gp all up. The paintings are cityscapes of Luskan, Neverwinter, Silverymoon, and Baldur's Gate.
Also you've found 1 "paper bird" sitting on a desk in one of the offices upstairs with a pen and bottle of ink right next to it.
It travels to within 5 feet of its intended recipient by the most direct route, whereupon it turns into a nonmagical and inanimate sheet of parchment that can be unfolded only by the intended recipient. If the bird's hit points or speed is reduced to 0 or if it is otherwise immobilized, it turns into ash.
Luskan |
Baldur's Gate |
Silverymoon |
Also you've found 1 "paper bird" sitting on a desk in one of the offices upstairs with a pen and bottle of ink right next to it.
After you write a message of fifty words or fewer on this magic sheet of parchment and speak a creature's name, the parchment magically folds into a paper bird and flies to the recipient whose name you uttered. The recipient must be on the same plane of existence as you, otherwise the bird turns into ash as it takes flight.
After the battle Dilane kicked in a door to a small area under the stairs to the second floor where you discover Renaer Neverember, son to Dagult Neverember a previous open lord of waterdeep.
Renaer explains that the Zhentarim believe his farther embezzled a large amount of gold while he was the open lord and that he hid the dragons somewhere in Waterdeep. He said "The wanted me to give them an artifact called the Stone of Golorr which they think is key to finding the gold. But this artifact was stollen a few weeks earlier, probably by the Xanathar guild. The Zhents thought I knew more but honestly I don't. My father and I haven't spoken in years"
He further explains that both him and Floon have been held here in the warehouse since their abduction and that a few hours ago the warehouse was set upon by a dozen members or more of the Xanathar guild. In the confusion of the battle that erupted he was able to hide himself in the space under the stairs. He was waiting for it to go quiet before trying to escape.
He goes on to explain that he fears the Xanathar guild have takes Floon having mistaken Floor for himself. He doesn't imagine Floon will last very long especially if the Xanathar discover that Floon isn't him.
While hearing Renaer's account Ermenos pieces together some other scraps of information which included some things he heard the 4 bird men parroting. Floon has probably been taken to a local Xanathar hideout. Phrases like "Tie the pretty boy up in the back room!" and "Follow the signs in the sewer", "No time for looting, leave that to them" and "Just get him to the boss!".
You've decided to go back to the Yawning Portal for a meal and rest before delving into the nearby sewers of Candle Lane. Renaer says to come find him after you've found Floon and he'll reward you for saving him.
You walk out into warehouse yard and see first light has just broken along with a large patrol of the city watch.
